 Driver Training Anyone?

Has anyone out there taken a BMW driver training course? And is it worth it? In Canada, the prices range from $290-$3150. You eventually get to take M3's on the track and learn from Pierre Savoy (The guy who taught Jacques Villeneuve and Patrick Carpentier.) I'm very tempted so I would love to know who has experienced it, why, what you've learned and whether or not it's a good investment.

Cheers.

Basic course is a good investment, and a heck of a joyride as well. You really get to experiment with the cars when they get loose and you try to catch them back. It's also a safety class so you get some reflexes prepped up in case something goes wrong, by practicing those maneuvers.

As for the more advanced classes, I didn't take them, so I don't know. I find the price hike steep for those. Anyways, Level 1 is a perequesite for the others so you can just begin with this one and see if you want to go any further...

thanks wolf. you'd think they'd give you room and board for the $3150 session. anyway, i'm glad to know there are some great practical (on-road) bits to the intro course. wouldn't want to be sitting in a classroom all day. btw, did you drive your own car at all?

Yes, from your home to the training and back...

No they are placing you in 330i/Ci models, it would seem that years ago they experimented with allowing people to drive their own cars but that was not very successful because most people didn't want to do that. Now they have the cars, but the course price is higher.

At the time I took the course I had a 323i with Sport Pack, almost the same thing as what we were driving through the course, albeit with a smaller engine. You don't spend that much time in a classroom, I'd say an hour in the morning and maybe half an hour in the afternoon if I remember correctly.

It's a relaxed ambiance with trainers that have a sense of humor so that makes for a very cool day...! You also get to toss the cars a lot!

Are these BMW training courses avaliable in the US instead of the Performance classes offered in South Carolina?

Where can I find more info on the courses?
