I have some ??'s on the XI and SP
Hey all, I realize that most ppl dont think that anyone should ever order a 330 w/ XI, but I live in Alaska, and as you all know, we get alot of snow for about 5 mos of the year here. But im woundering if anyone has had any experience with the 18's in snow. Are they manageable? I have lived here all my life, and am pretty good w/ driving in the snow. I want to order the SP for the XI, but the rims that it comes with are too ugly. Or is there a way to get the SP and keep the stock rims? Also, does anyone know when the nav system will work for AK? Thanks all.

what does everyone else think???

One precision: are you getting the ZSP for the 330 xi (which BTW comes with 17' rims and tires, just different model rims) or are you also getting the sport rim option which gives you the 18' rims with off-set front/back tire sizes.
If the former, you will get away with stock rims, but I recommend getting dedicated winters (especially in Alsaka). If the latter, you better swap you rim for pothole protection and winter tractability, as you would want the same (smaller) width tire for winter (being 225/45/) all around (rather than the 255/30/18's on the ZSP with the extra sport tire option)

So what I ordered was the 330xi w/ Graphite/Black Leather/Burl/ then got the Prem Pkge and Heated F. Seats (Probably shouldve opted for the Winter Pkge, cuz i would like the fold down seats.) But it should all be ok.

what does everyone else think??? | I've participated in several debates about this one, mostly trying to decide how I feel about the same thing. I had a chance to drive my SP-equipped car for a week during my recent ED adventure, and ran into a lot of rain. It handled superbly one the wet pavement. I even ran into a little snow and freezing rain going over the top of the Alps in Austria, but it wasn't really a 'snow-covered road' like you get further in the NE US. I just took it easy and had no trouble at all. This seems to be a topic that attracts extreme opinions. Some say you are crazy to even consider driving summer perfomance tires in the cold weather, much less snow and ice (BMW does not recommend it). Others feel that modern stability control makes it do-able, if not anywhere ideal. I 'loved' the SP and never felt it step out of line. But my tires were probably already warm from driving, and there was not really any snow on the road. I'm planning on going through this winter with my stock SP summer tires, taking it very easy on snowy days. But that's in MD where we don't get as much snow as you might. If I find it just doesn't feel safe, I'll get a set of winter tires/wheels and be done with it. Either that or just drive my other car.
