 Patience and a 325i

First, thank all of the members for sharing. The informaion in the forum was priceless help to purchasing my first BMW. The messages on the software issues were EXTREMELY helpful. I have owned several vehicles so I decided to try BMW this time.

Patience is needed when purchasing the BMW! I know it is the "ultimate driving machine", but when you want an automobile, you want an automobile with minimum hassels.
1) Finding a car without ordering is a chore. Ordering takes some time and that is OK. I relized early in the process you had to settle for items you may or may not need but you can live with. So, I must show patience.
2) I found a great 325i with premium package, cold weather package, auto, satellite radio prep. and comfort access for probably as good deal as you will obtain from a dealer. But, it took a lot of looking through dealer inventories and working with a few sales consultants. Had to show paitence.
3) . I travel a lot so, I arranged for delivery today. Figuring after two days on the road (did not need the car anyway), my dealer would have the car ready to go and I would be a happy bimmer.
3) The dealer had to install the sirus radio and I specifically asked if all the software issues were resolved.
4) What a surprise today (Saturday) on pick up day! The sales person was out sick (but I understood that) and no one new of course I was coming. They finally found my car after a long search. The radio was installed BUTTTTTT, the sales person announced BMW had not sent software to make it work. [What I am going to do with a dead Sirus radio?] So, I moved onto the next issue, software and vehicle and key preferences. Of course, he could not find anything on that in my folder. It just so happend I had the BMW checklist sheet handy that I pulled for this site. I happily shared this with the salesman. Oh, he says, I will make sure the tech gets this. So, that was not done.
5) Then, they had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to take the car. I admit is was very tempting as it is beautiful but I left it right there on the lot until they get everything working. I figured they have an incentive to make sure all is working, as I have a check for them in my pocket.
6) By now, I have the general manager, business manager, sales manager and salesman all working to help me. [ I really just want my car!] They have now promised the car for delivery on Tuesday. BMW is SUPPOSED to e-mail software on Monday. I am showing patience for the "ultimate driving machine".

I would have taken the car home...these are very minor issues, life is too short.

It was all I could do to leave the bimmer but, based on all the issues with the pre-Sept. software, having purchased many a vehicle and understanding you will have software glitches in complicated mechanical systems, the manufacturer and dealer only have an incentive to ship cars with minimun issues if consumers do not pay for cars delivered with known issues. So, I am hoping my small stance will help all of us bimmer drivers. Also, going back and forth to a dealer over numerous small issues takes time away from enjoying the ulitmate driving machine.

You will find that BMW dealers are not quite as accountable for their actions as, say, a Lexus dealership. I really wish BMW would tighten their grip on their stealership network, because as it is right now, your experience can vary widely from stealership to stealership.

Can you elaborate on your comment regarding BMW dealers being not quite as accountable as Lexus dealers?
