A Few Random Thoughts And Observations

Well, I took delivery yesterday of what I was told was the first [paid-in-full-for] Deep Green 330i in North America.

Gotta say that I love the color. It is a much deeper/darker green, a forest green if you will, than was the outgoing "grass-green" of the Oxford Green.

Don't really care what anyone else has to say on the matter, I love this color. It has the darker sophistication of Sapphire Black but in a real color which to me is more interesting. I have never been a follower so if I am the "only" one to have a DG e90 then so be it.

Otherwise here are a few thoughts [random, no order or preference] after two days and 125 miles of actual ownership:

1] The driver-side armrest controls are poorly placed too far down the armrest. They require a concerted effort to reach from my driving position and I am only 5'-11".

2] The plastic surround of the Sport steering wheel [the part that can be replaced with other finishes] uses a really cheap piece of plastic that will scratch far too easily and will likely need replacing sooner rather than later.

3] My car had the newer 'M' type wheel with the thumb ridges and the "tacky" finish. The feel and thickness of this wheel is quite pleasing.

4] It is ridiculous that you cannot close all doors and windows with the remote. I understand it is a liability issue but that is a poor excuse.

5] There definitely is a hesitation when applying the accelerator from a dead stop. I really hope this does go away as it has become a little annoying.

6] Not a single rattle, squeak, or noise...so far [fingers crossed].

7] The Sport suspension is just to tight. It's great in winding curves at speed etc. but lets face it, most of us use this car on a daily basis and encounters with potholes outnumber encounters with curves by about 10,0000:1.

I would say that a setting somewhere between the Sp suspension setup and the non-SP package would be a nice compromise. I am going to explore the viability of having "softer" springs installed.

8] This car is a blast to drive; more so than the e46 IMHO. It is so much more solid and precise 'feeling'. The added horsepower does make a noticeable difference.

80mph [even 100mph] comes up frighteningly quick and quietly; much more like my XJ-8 than the e46 [though it still can't quite throw you back in your seat like a 300hp/300 lb/ft V8].

I agree with both points.... I too find myself reaching for the front windows as I like the seat all the way back....... In terms of the steering wheel, I think it would have looked better to match the trim. I suspect that is a cost saving decision on their part as a mismatched peice of plastic doesn't fit the bill for a bmw.....

New suspensions have a lot of friction that make them feel hard over small bumps. The suspension will loosen up nicely in the first 1000 - 2000 miles.

Meanwhile try experimenting with tire pressure. Try both 2 psi softer than whatever it is set to now and 2 psi harder. If this seems to make a difference, try +-5 psi.

Hey - I'm with you - I was torn between the Green and Monaco - but ultimately I'm a blue fan - the darker the better - but I love the green

As a Fern Green E46 owner, I welcome the company. My car color looks fabulous after being freshly washed and waxed-viva la difference!

As for your comments about the harshness of the ride of the sport package, I agree with the air pressure comments. If that does not help, look into replacing the run flat tires with a good set of conventional Michelins or Bridgestones. That will certainly change the ride charateristics of the car without compromising the handling of the suspension. Personally, I think the sport suspension is just fine. BMW's are not a Buicks after all!

I haven't seen the green--except in the brochure--but I would have considered it. I think it hurts resale value, but I'm in the drive-the-car-you-want-to-drive-not-the-car-you-want-to-sell-someday school of thought. (Okay, so the school has a wrap-around sign!)

The other color I thought was cool--and was also unavailable--was the Barrique Red Metallic. Both the green and the barrique look terrible on Edmunds.com, but they looked great in the brochure.

Congratulations on your new car!
