Help e90 330i SP skiing/snowboarding
Help! I am planning to buy a 330i with Sport Package next spring/summer. I live in Southern California (San Diego, actually) and it does not snow here. I do like to snowboard and my wife loves skiing. I am currtently driving an Acura RSX-S and it does o.k. on for our ski trips, even with PS2s on 17inch wheels. The Acura is of course FWD, and the 225/17-45 wheels allow for snow chains. I cannot seem to find chains in my research online that would accomodate the 330 SP wheels. In fact, I am not sure that one can mount snow chains on the standard 330 or the 325 SP. I am looking for guidance from the forum, since quite a few individuals here seem to be very helpful and knowledgeable.
Thanks ahead,
Mike.

225/45/17:225/50r/16 pn 36 11 0 399 077 pr 365 | Thanks, so snow chains can be mounted on any wheel other than the 162's from the 330 SP. Great. But am I still SOL for the 330's SP 162s?
Thanks again.
P.S. To clarify most of our trips are to Mammoth, where we travel 5 hours on the highways, and only the last couple of miles may have snow. So I don't need snow tires or anything, just be able to mount chains or chain-like system on the rears.

I think you'll find that WITH THE RIGHT RUBBER, the bimmer is better in the snow than your acura. No kidding..... it's about the 50/50 weight distribution, and with DSC the thing is on rails in the snow. I had an e46 with performance rubber, and switched to snows for winter, and was quite impressed. I couldn't MAKE it slip....
But keep in mind summer rubber is more than just a different ttread... it's softer rubber that will not stick to ANY surface once it gets cold... add snow, and the thing is a roller blade in the winter with the wrong rubber. I would even suggest that with winter rubber you may not need chains. I certainly didn't, and Cleveland winters suck. Do yourself a favor and spend the 1000 bucks on snows and mounting for three years. You won't be sorry.
I know you didn't ask for any of this advice, and if I am telling you things you know, I am sorry... for what it's worth, I've been quite happy with the rack system they have for the e90....
regards
