 Break in period?

My wife and I just got our first bimmer on 9/10! It's a 2006 330i. We are both arguing over who gets to drive it because its such an amazing machine! Anyway, I've been reading some of the posts and people are mentioning a break in period for the car. Oops! Our dealer did NOT mention anything to us. Luckily the mileage is only at 114. What are the rules of the break in period? How long? Why?

Thanks,

Seth

Your owner's manual does state the proper break-in procedures. For the most part, keep it under 4.5k on the revs and under 100 mph for the first 1500 miles or so. Vary your engine speed, use engine braking as much as possible (with an auto, use the sport mode). Tkae it easy on the new car for a while. Your engine wont really come alive until after about 7k miles or so, so dont go wailing it at every light...

Don't you people READ! Come on. I could understand a question that may not be in the manual, but quit being a complete lazy arse. I'm sorry, but that was a really lame question. Did the dealer mention you need to put gas in it?????

There is a more polite way than saying that. Just ask them to read the manual.... thats all...

Maximus57-

That was really rude. I've never had to break in a car before and quite honestly have never heard of such a thing. And YES, I read the manual last night and found that I am not to go over 4.5k rpm for the first 1,250 miles and not exceed 100mph . I'm 23 and this is my first BMW. And yes, I was shocked to find out from the dealer that I had to put gas in the car.

Maximus was being an Probably having a bad day. Do a search on your question first. If you don't find what you're looking for, then ask.
