Roof bike rack for E90
Has anyone gotten the roof bike rack for their E90 yet? We want to be able to transport 2 bikes, but are unsure what we need to get. Also, are the racks something that pop on and off easily? How much time does it take to pop on/off? (I am NOT going to drive around with the thing on unless I have to.) Do we need to get the lift as well and is it worth it? Do we need to get an E90-specific rack (as compared to other models and years)? Thanks for the help with my many questions!
| | Reply » Roof bike rack for E90 | I have a rack that bolts into an e46 roof mount system. Since it is not in front of me right now, I can't remember if it is a Thule or aYakima. When I tried it on the e90, the openings (the little hinged doors on the roof) on the e90 were not long enough to accept the e46 rack. However, I have trimmed each end of the mount off the legs of the old e46 rack, and they then fit quite nicely. So it is possible to adapt the old to the new. These (e46) racks are currently available.
It is attached and detached with a little allen wrench that comes with the set. It is light weight and easy to place onto the roof. I also put an old thick blanket on the roof while I am placing it into position so if i need to rest it on the roof it will rest on the blanket and not scratch the paint. It takes under 5 minutes.
I am not familiar with the lift unless it is one of those deals that bicycla can be attached to to hoist them up. My bicycles weigh under 20 pounds so they are no big deal to lift.
