 Sport package wish...

I wish the sport package came with an engine temperature and oil pressure gauge. Hell, the car should have an engine temp gauge in base trim. I'd gladly turn in that nagging little mpg gauge for temp. and pressure.

That would be awesome, yes.

LeatherZ offers a kit for the E46 that provides oil temperature and pressure gauges. Evidence suggests they will release one for the E90 as well.

I have the E46 version and love it. It looks completely stock - the lighting even matches the factory orange. Installation was a little...tricky, but certainly doable.

According to someone (e90fleet) who really knows his stuff and contributes a lot in the e90post forum, the new n52 engine's coolant and oil is operated on *demand* according to the ecu. Depending on whether it is running in economy mode in which case the ecu allows the engine to operate at higher temps for efficiency, or whether it is running in power mode in which case the engine operates at lower temps for max power. According to him, there are 4 modes in all, so having oil and temp gauges will be almost useless since they'll be fluctuating all over the place and you don't have the ecu info to know which mode it's in.

I guess for better of worse this is the way of the future, since the e90 doesn't even have a proper dipstick!

Agreed. It's just kinda odd looking at a gauge cluster without one. One thing I'd like, too, would be an oil temp gauge. My 01 S4 had one and it was a really handy thing to have. Course it was pretty much a necessity on a car like that since its turbos were oil-cooled, but still, I feel like something like that'd be good to have on N/A-powered cars, too.

but as Visor observed, I guess it's the way of the future...

Glad to see others agree. I know I don't like to dip too deep into the rev range until I know the engine is warmed up. Water temp gauge is the minimum I would think. Oil temp would be better still. I have no idea how long it takes the engine to warm up, and I'm sure it will vary with the change in seasons.
