Folks,
One of my friends told me that some of the stick-shift E46s are made in South Africa. Is that going to be the case for the stick-shift E90s. If yes, is there any ways that I can make sure mine is "Made in Germany".
Thanks, -Yukon

BS!
Some (not all) E46 325s were built in SA. Both trans were produced there and shipped to the US. Some E90 325s will be produced there for US sales.

Thanks, -Yukon | There's a thread out there somewhere (maybe on the other forum) that tells you how to identify where your car was built by looking at the VIN. Just do a quick search. I think none of the US E90's were made in South Africa... not til the September run is what people have been saying. But rest assured --a South African made BMW is still a BMW. Some people have even argued the quality control is even better there.

Z4's and X5's are assembled in the United States. I've never seen the build quality of those vehicles to be inferior to their German built 3/5/7 series counterparts. The same applies to the SA produced E46 models. Most mass-market Honda and Toyota vehicles are also made in the US, and most of the Volkswagens we get are assembled in Mexico.
It really has nothing to do with where the car is assembled, but rather who (or what) assembled it. BMW's quality control standards are uniform regardless of assembly plant.
Just as good, same or better. No worries.
