E90 vs. RS 4, sadly no competition currently...

Hate to say it but I'm probably leaving the BMW club after my ZHP lease runs out next summer...the E90 sedan just doesn't do if for me in its current flavors...the new engine in the 330 adds hardly any performance while Audi is coming out with the RS 4 sedan next summer which looks SWEET in Car and Driver...2008 (maybe) for the E90 M3 sedan is too long off...BMW is too dang conservative in the States...and it is going to cost them...

Not really. especially if we're talking about the RS4 sucks. I do have to admit though, I think the E90 looks 10 times better than the B7 A4 new facelift. The RS4 is better than the A4s, but I'm still not a huge fan of the new look. None of the less... the new RS4 is still a great machine.

Anyways ya too bad they won't have the E90 M3 sedan here anytime soon!

IF you want a RS4 you better get to an Audi dealer quick because there won't be lots hanging around. Get it while you can!

Interestingly, Audi has 2 cars in the upper segment, one is the S4 and the other one is the brand new RS4.

The interior in Audi is top notch. My sister is driving an A3 and I have to admit that the interior is much better than in the 1 Series. There are a couple of ergonomical problems (such as the too wide middle tunnel, pedals being placed too much to the right etc.), but all in all the materials feel very qualitative.

Audi switched to the high-revving concept, now if they switch to rear wheel drive too (which is still in talks), then it will be really something to consider seriously. I'm not a huge fan of AWD cars, they tend to burn more gas and they are heavier.

I saw the RS4 on the 'Ring a couple of months ago. Great looking car, infective sound.

Only 2 months to go until the Frankfurt Motor Show, maybe we might get some bits of information about the speculated Turbo.

Yeah, AWD is a bit of a downer but I not too high on a BMW turbo either.

Here is the article from C/D:

The driver of the silver Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG glances into his rearview mirror, notices us approaching in a blue Audi, and accelerates. He briefly speeds away until we both move into the passing lane and a quick downshift into fifth gear brings the Audi back into view. Astonished by this development, and spurred on by pride of ownership, instinct, and ambition, the SL55 driver hits the accelerator hard—an everyday routine on the German autobahn. Much to his chagrin, he can't seem to shake the Audi. Running between 135 and 155 mph, the 493-hp Benz pulls away briefly on straight sections only to find the Audi right behind it on the next curve. What the SL55 driver probably doesn't realize is that this is no ordinary Audi A4. Our weapon is the new 414-hp, 4.2-liter direct-injection V-8 Audi RS 4.

The copious 414 horsepower from the heavily revised V-8 is doled out to all four wheels through Audi's Quattro system. No modifications to the vehicle structure were necessary to slip the all-aluminum, quad-cam V-8 between the new aluminum front fenders. A derivation of Audi's corporate 4.2-liter V-8, the engine boasts new pistons, connecting rods, and cylinder heads; a new crankshaft; and Audi's FSI direct fuel injection. The stronger and lighter internal components as well as the cooling properties of direct injection, which allows for a higher compression ratio, yield a high-revving, ferocious V-8 with a power peak of 7800 rpm and an 8250-rpm redline. But this engine is not without low-end torque—at least 90 percent of the 317 pound-feet of peak torque is available at 2250 rpm.

Lowered by 1.2 inches and sitting on 18-inch wheels (19-inchers are optional), this top-of-the-line A4 can accelerate to 62 mph in a claimed 4.8 seconds. That figure should be easily attained, considering that the last 340-hp S4 we tested hit 60 in 5.1 seconds. The RS 4's performance potential is further improved by the extensive use of aluminum throughout the car, especially in the suspension. In the stopping department the RS 4 is no less impressive. Vented 14.4-inch front rotors and 12.8-inch rears give this little Audi the ability to "brake better than the Lamborghini Gallardo," according to Audi spokesperson Josef Schlossmacher. Audi should know—it owns Lamborghini.

After about 25 miles of autobahn cat-and-mouse, the unimaginable (to the Benz driver) occurs. The Audi pulls ahead of the Benz to an indicated 168 mph. With the Benz's speedo pegged at a governed 155 mph, its driver can only sit back and watch as the ungoverned Audi pulls ahead. Stateside, the speeds will likely be a bit less extreme when the approximately $55,000 RS 4 goes on sale next spring.
