Has anyone done a serious comparison between the volvo and bmw wagons? Any info you could forward would be greatly appreciated. Also - anyone have the scoop on the new 2006 325 iT, like when it will appear? Thanks.

Well, if you care about cargo capacity and acceleration, the Volvo is going to be the much better choice (Volov is one of the largest wagons availbale). If you care about ride and handling, the BMW is going to be the better choice. You'll also get a much better "deal" on the Volvo.

Price wise they are in the same class, but not in terms of size or driving style. I think the V70 is a closer competitor the 5 series.

What's your price range? I think you'll find the 325 to be a more rewarding driver's experience than the V70 but generally speaking for all the compromises that necessitate a wagon over a coupe or sedan you're going to find that Volvo is a better choice.
If it's in your buget, I would highly recommend you look at the V70R 6-speed (or automatic if MY2006.) With Volvo discounts you can buy a V70R with 300 hp, AWD, 6-speed, leather, bi-xenons, active chassis, and 330mm Brembos for mid 30s or slightly lower. From a driving perspective the only thing I think the V70 T5 would have over the 325 is acceleration. The V70R on the other hand is a different beast and much more fun to drive. From a practicality perspective the Volvo is simply bigger with more flexible interior options and generally cheaper with real world pricing.
The 325iT is size wise and handling wise much more comparable to the Volvo V50 T5 (AWD or FWD - take your pick.)
