 330i VS Mustang GT 2005

I testdrove both today... Here are my impressions :

Exterior:
E90 put side by side with the old model : looks wider from the front, hood goes lower faster, back is not great at all & 16'' tires look so small on this car.. it needs at least 17 or 18'' wheels which make me think : are the wheels the only thing that looks good on this car ? The front kidney is bigger on the E90.. too big for my taste... great in Titanium silver or electric red.. or Alpine..

Mustang is a "you like it or not"... back is great.. front it depends on your taste... wheels are gorgeous.. antenna going up looks "old"... great in black, light grey or cherry red

Interior:
Thumbs up for the E90.. looks great with charcoal&aluminium trim.. wood is too dark and too plastic like even if it's real wood... Thumbs us for the mustang for the steering wheelsand the dials.. much better done in the Mustang than in the E90.. (from a designer point of view).
Back seat : forget about it in the mustang.. that car is a 2-seater only.. E90 gets +1 on that particular point of view.
One particular note in favor of the Mustang : the way you're seating in the car, the hood in front of you is so high.. it gives you that feeling that you're in some supersonic jet : Great !
E90 looks ordinary

Engine:
If you have never tried a mustang gt (manual of course) and have not placed your order yet for the E90, please go try it at least.. there's nothing like that Big V8 exhaust sound.. 330i is great but it's 2 different worlds.. E90 is more refined but can't compare with that V8...

Handling:
E90 is better... mustang is a drag car... no need to argue on this point..

Bangforthebucks:
You already know the answer...

Summary:
The E90 has nothing to do with the earliest model... it's too plain looking for me and I'm the kind of guy who has always LOVE the old look.. especially in the M kind of apperance... If you look at a M3 and at the new E90... the E90 gets two thumbs down!!!
I don't see why I should keep waiting for the E90 look to grow on me... it will never I guess... I'm still thinking about it but for now, my heart (and my money) is with the Mustang.. So if you're the kind of person who loves to take everything a car has (even if it's an old focus, firebird or whatever) then you're the kind of guy that really love to drive and you should at least give the Mustang a testdrive.. it's worth it.. But if you're the kind of person who'll go for the E90 only because it's the "new" bimmer and it's wearing a BMW tag... go for it..

Cheers,

Calvado

And please don't flame me because I'm still a Bimmer fan but before everything else I'm a car fan... and on that comparison, the Mustang takes the lead.. but i know, it's 2 different kind of cars

I drove both of them and for me the E90 is way thumbs up. They are two different cars, but I just could not get used to Mustang manual trans. Yeah it has nice V8 gurgle but car is not refined, the clutch is so freaking heavy and whole car feels like a boat. My leg hurt after 30 minutes driving around...

After that drive I drove in my A4 and it felt nimble like never before :-) Clutch was super easy, I instantly loved my car even more...

E90 330i, I love the engine, so refined and smooth. Effortless power delivery. Clutch is really really nice. Short and easy. Shifts are, I admit long, but so they are in the Mustang. Nothing short shifter cannot fix.

It comes to the preference really. V8 is V8, but for me I need smooth and refined. If I had enough money and garage space I would have Mustang GT as perfect specimen of American muscle car, but as automatic only :-)

Aren't you trolling for flames when you make such a silly comment as "if you're the kind of person who buys a car because its the next new bimmer" then get the E90?

There are some stinking rich people who buy the BMW just to own a BMW without knowing or appreciating what the car has to offer and you wont ever see them in these forums, but most people who own BMWs especially the 3 series buy them for driving fun and precise handling more than anything else.

If Lexus IS, Infiniti G35 or any other car offers the same handling as the E90, I wouldn't care much about the blue and white badge.

I had a 70 Mach 1, silver with black trim, scoop and wheels. It and the new 'Stang was/is gorgeous. I've also had 4 bimmers and my E90 is almost ready.

You can't really compare the 2 cars - it's like trying to compare a '72 Ferrari Daytona with a 70 Challenger 426 Hemi. Apples and oranges.

You don't buy a Mustang GT for dual climate control or folding rear seats or precise steering.

E90 BMW 330i is a winner hands down! There is no contest here
