I read the E90 owners manual that someone else posted and was wondering how you customise the operation of the car if you do not have i-drive (pdf manual was for e90 with i-drive).
For example if you don't have i-drive can you choose if the doors lock once you start driving, or if the remote opens the driver's door with one click and then a second click for the other doors ? Can a non-i-drive owner say if you can configure this and how ?
Or should I use the i-drive owners manual as a list of what the car CAN be setup to do and assume that without i-drive you have to take the car to the dealer for them to set the options via some plug in computer ?

Quite a few of the options that are customizable through iDrive do not have equivalent customer methods for change on non-iDrive cars. They would require setup by the dealer by hooking into the car's computer using their software.
I can't provide you with a comprehensive list of which these are, nor do I know of a place to find such a thing.

...and most dealers do not have the new version software (yet), to allow them to modify the delivery settings for non-iDrive cars. I'm sure that software will be available to them soon though.
