I am taking European Delivery June 27th and was wondering if the break in period has to be followed while I am their. What happens if I don't follow it?

What happens if I don't follow it? | Why would being in Germany some how make it okay not to follow the break in period? The car probably won't be able to tell if you are in Germany or in the USA. It will be affected by how you drive regardless of what country you are in. Nobody can force you to follow the break in recommendations, but why would you not want to do this ( I know - the Autobahn). Beat it now and pay the price (not necessarliy financial, but maybe performance wise) later, psyran

This topic has been argued many times with no clear resolution. Fact is, you are going to be driving on the Autobahn, are you really going to want to take it easy when you have the chance to drive 100mph+ legally?

I understand that the car will not know that I am in Germany, but I was just wondering how bad it will damage the car if I drive it above 100mph. I appreciate the info.

My personal belief is that the break-in period is more for legal reasons than mechanical. If you choose to follow break in, the mph limit is in the trip digits so it's not that bad.

When you take European Delivery of your car you'll actually get a small voucher that excuses you from break-in-period responsibilities until you get back home to the US. Think of it like a note from your doctor in school. When your car arrives in the US, they take that voucher back and you start the break-in-period there.
Seriously, I think most folks that do ED have great intentions of following the break-in guidelines but they're sooooo easy to forget about when you see that end-of-speed-limit sign on the autobahn.
