 E90 Nav problem

I picked up my E90 last week, and I'm very happy with it. This is my first car with i-drive, and after all the bad things I've heard about it, I was surprised to find myself liking it... a lot. The one feature I think it really needs, however, is phone number destination inputs. I rented a Chrysler Pacifica with navigation the other week and it had the phone number feature. It made traveling in an unknown city so much easier because often times I'll have the phone number of a place but not the address.

Anyway, I turned on my car today, and to my dismay I encountered my first problem with the car. The navigation arrow displayed my location about a mile off from where I actually was. I drived around for a while hoping it would eventually correct itself, but it didn't. I also tried turning the car off and on, and ejecting the navigation dvd, but neither worked. I'm hoping when I turn on the car next it will have fixed itself somehow, but if not, has anyone heard of this problem before? I did get the windows tinted, but they were tinted at the dealer before I picked the car up, and the navigation was working fine until yesterday.

This occasionally happens.

It is more of a GPS issue than anything else. Sometimes the car has trouble receiving the satellite's signals and sometimes the positions (and number 'visible' at a particular time) of the satellites will limit the accuracy of the system.

If you park your car in the open, with the Navigation on, and leave it there for 15 minutes it will usually sort itself out.

A far quicker solution is to go into the menu system of the Navigation System and select 'Vehicle Position' to manually tell the car where you are. Entering an 'intersection' works best but you can use the map. This speeds things up a bit and helps the system sort itself out more quickly.

This feature is on the E46 DVD based Nav (which I have) but it should also be on the E90s system.

I wonder if disconnecting the battery for a few hours would help....

I drove around for about a half hour today, and the problem is still there. The navigation is about 2 or 3 miles off now. Even the compass is wrong. North is not the direction the navigation thinks it is.

I looked for the "vehicle position" setting but couldn't find one. There is a "current position" setting which gives your coordinates, but I couldn't figure out a way to change it. Any other ideas? I guess I'm going to call the salesman. I'm dreading the long drive to the dealership though.

Slightly off topic... but I am using the Magellan Roadmate 300 and sometimes it takes an unusual long time to "fix" the vehicle's location in the morning. Normally, the unit would recognize where it is under 3 minutes. But I've noticed on several occasions that it would take 20 minutes or longer. Solar flares maybe??
