EDIT : It might be to open/close the a/c vent.

It's for the cloaking device... changes the color of the interior, from the looks of your pictures...

| Just a guess, but perhaps it turns off the cooling in the "variable temperatur compartment in the centre console"

It does appear that the cupholder is surrounded by vents.
