 Munich or Frankfurt....does it matter??

I'm picking up my new 325xi in April and could drop it off in either Frankfurt or Munich based on my travel plans. Is there any advantage in one place over the other? Will it be trucked straight to the port regardless of which one I choose? Thanks!!

It doesn't really matter as your car will be trucked directly to the port from either city. The one difference is the frequency of trucks: in Munich there may be several a day (e.d. cars and new cars from the factory, which usually but not always go by rail, might share the same truck) and in Frankfurt it might be a truck every few days. But that doesn't mean your car will leave Bremerhaven any faster as ships on which BMW has booked space don't leave every day

Frankfurt is, well, a less interesting city unless you are there for business perhaps.

Best advice: plan your drop-off based on your itinerary and enjoy your time in Germany.

Open jaw flights are usually more expensive, so why not just fly RT into/out of MUC and drop the car there as well?

That is usually true except for the BMW Lufthansa 2 for 1 deal. In fact that IMO is the biggest advantage of the LH deal.

I'll have to remember that. Bee, how do you manage to get seats when LH won't let you buy tickets (or booK) until you have a VIN? Often that makes the ticket too expensive (if seats are even available) since the tickets are being bought only four weeks out.

Thanks to all! The reason it doesn't matter is because my son has a house that's about equal distance between the two and I'll plan to be driving around both areas as well as Austria. Based upon what I think I'll be doing, it would probably be a little more practical for me to fly out of Frankfurt but if there were an advantage in leaving it in Munich, I would do so. I'm not concerned about anything other than the car, itself....'cause I've got a feeling I'm going to love it!
