How does it work for NEW cars?

Ok...

I am not yet seriously considering a ED, but just to get an idea...

Lets take the new 3-series convertible. Lets "assume" the first production slots for Europe start around September 2006. Lets also "assume" that the first production slots for NA start 3-4 months later (around December 2006 / January 2007).

Questions:
1) Are Dealerships allotted a limited number of ED production slots?
2) Would the production slots TYPICALLY be before or after the production slots for NA? How was it with E90 sedans?
3) If they are before, how long is the turn around? Isn't there an additional 1-2 months for shipping by ED?
4) Do Dealerships still "sale" the car? For example, would I be entitled to a BMW rental during maintance, as if I had orded it directly off the dealer lot?

Sorry if these seem basic, I am just thinking of alternatives to get the cost down a little.

I see you are in Atlanta. Do yourself a favor and call Adrian at Nalley BMW, you will certainly be happy with the results.

1) Typically, 3 Series cars do not come out of dealer allocation, unless they are a hot model. There is a separate ED pool for production slots. Typically you order the car the month before it is built, and then pick it up the month after that.

2) Good question, I'm not sure but I am guessing that since your car will be built for the US market, you will not be able to pick up the car until it is officially available to the US.

3) ED is a long process that involves a lot of waiting. Your car will be delivered back to the USA around 6 (or more) weeks after you drop it off in Europe.

4) Your car is still sold by the dealership, so you would be entitled to the BMW loaners etc.

Hope this helps!

Production dates for ED and for USD are the same. It seems like cars get here later because they have to be shipped and processed before they show up at dealers. ED cars don't follow the domestic European dates.

You get all the benefits from your dealer as you would with a USD car. You are getting the same car you would get if you bought it here (with the exception of an included warning trianngle and first aid kit).

Based on that assumption, you will NOT be able to get a car thru ED until a year later.

You can bet your arse that the new 3 series convertible WILL come out of the dealer's allocation for at least 1 year after introduction. Using history as a guide.

Hope this helps,

Based on my experience with the AWD e90 and ED, I'd think the ED allocation will be after US production.

The AWD started production in Sept. 05 and I had wanted to do ED mid-late Oct and it wasn't possible because I was told no AWD ED production until Oct.

It makes sense as they would want to supply the US delivery market first.

The convertibles are VERY hot cars. The demand for cic far exceeds xi.
