The Best Part of My ED Vacation

My trip lasted 22 Days, with my son Michael as copilot. This trip was his college graduation present. We explored Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Germany again, Norway, Denmark, and Germany one more time for dropoff in Munich. The new Bimmer found 33 Alpine passes and 7 Norwegian passes, saw many miles of autobahn and much more. The odometer read about 4950 miles when we dropped it off at Harms.

But the best part was participating in the 43rd annual BMW Club Driving School (Internationaler Fahrerlehrgang auf dem Nurburgring) on the world-famous Nordschleife course. It is organized by the BMW Club Mulheim-Ruhr. Of the 12 student groups, 2 were from Nordamerica this year.

Photo captions:

1. My personal Ring Taxi - my new e90 330i, parked at the Nurburgring start complex, where the real Ring Taxi can often be found.
2. Our group (Gruppe 2) lines up along the driving line through the Karussell Corner.
3. Full lap practice following my Instructor. They use the "Lead-Follow" method of instructing at this 3-day school.
4. At speed through the Karussell.
5. Pflanzgarten Corner - one of my favorites.

Looks like a blast! How much and how does one get more information? How did you get pics of your car through the course? I'll assume your son was taking them.

The school is coordinated thru BMW CCA, and is advertised every year in Roundel. It's open to any CCA member, although significant track driving experience is a prerequisite. The cost varies with the $/Euro exchange rate, but I think it was about $1400 this year. (This includes the 3-day school, meals and awards banquet.) The price does not include your car (most Americans rent a BMW) or hotel.

I took the first 2 pics; the others were taken by the pro photographer for the track.
