Input on six night ED itinerary?
Okay, got the 550i lined up for pickup on 10/27, got the wife a ticket and passport, got the three boys staying home for the week (hope the house survives) and now working on the road trip. We have no goals other than scenic drives and good food/drink. Here is the plan:
Day 1 -- Arrive 10/27, 9:30 am, go get new car!!!!! Plug in NAV and Drive to Innsbruck for the afternoon/night Day 2 -- drive to the Dolomites, stay in Cortina Day 3 -- drive to lake Como, stay in Bellagio, maybe two nights in area Day 5 -- Drive into Switzerland, either thru st. moritz or towards Bregenz, Day 6 -- drive into Germany, maybe as far west as Friberg or Black Forest area?? Day 7 -- drive to Harms, drop off, lunch and catch a 3 pm home.
Generally, short trips. Anyone have any suggestions on towns to visit, stay, eat in or ?? Any hotels that appealed to you? We are not making reservations and are comfortable looking for a place each afternoon. Thanks

If all you want to do is drive, understood. But I think you'll probably not get much enjoyment from driving all day just to stay in an expensive town that you can't see in the dark. Same for the dolomites. To enjoy them fully, you'll want to drive around the various roads a bit. That alone could take a full day (it did for us). What I might do is add another night in the dolomites, so you can get there in teh afternoon, spend a full day, and then leave in the morning for Como. To get back that day, I'd drop the black forest plan, and maybe even consider dropping in Zurich instead of going all the way back to Munich.
Also, I would make reservations in both Cortina and Bellagio. Both are resort towns, so people often book in advance. While it's off-season, you never know what might be closed or tough to get into. It's not like you can just drive to the next town after bellagio. One possibility for Como is to stay in Menaggio or somewhere else on the western shore of teh lake, and then take the ferry over to bellagio, either for the day or for a meal.

For Day 5, would recommend Bregenz. For Day 6, good idea. For Day 7, you need to pick what city you are going to drop off the car in! (your itinerary says Harms, without specifying a city!)

I found that I spent a lot more time getting from one place to the other than I had expected, so you might want to factor that in. Also, with a flight home the last day, give yourself plenty of time. My last driving day I ran into a bad traffic jam driving from Stuttgart back to Munich. If my flight had been out later that day, I definitely would have missed it. Have a great trip and share plenty of photos with the rest of us

If so you will probably get to the delivery center just shy of noon, by time you get luggage and taxi to the delivery center etc. It may be busy then but since it is mid week prolly not, the minimum time ther is a half hour wait and then going over the car. The drive to Innsbruck will get you there late afternoon, maybe you would like to stop in Garmisch instead via the Deutsche alpinestrasse? The scenerary is amazing in the Alps and if you want to take it in, you are going to want to stop and enjoy it at scenic view pull offs etc, so the trip becomes a bit longer everywhere you go. Seems like a lot of driving and short stays, I would just recommend either pulling the distance shorter or eliminate a stop or so.... I also recommend www.viamichelin.com for route planning in advance. the nav sometimes does not go the way you want. Yes it gets you there but may not pass the location etc. you want to see (unless you program each stop in). Hope that helps you! enjoy the trip and your car! Oh and the Romantic Road is a nice road as well!Romantic Road from Frommers Alpine strasse (english button in top right)

That is supposed to be a pretty place though I personally never made it there
