 Lufthansa 2 for 1 - you CAN lock in without a VIN

About a month ago a chap on the Lufthansa 2 for 1 line told me that without a VIN it is not possible to book a flight. After surfing forums I decided to call back today. The price has gone up, but I DID lock in a multi-destination flight for Dec 18th/ Dec 30th WITHOUT A VIN.

If anyone is doing a similar trip these are my flight details + costs:

Dec 18th, Atlanta -> Munich
Dec 30th, London Heathrow -> Atlanta

Total cost with taxes for two people: $1198.62

http://www.lufthansa-usa.com/241BMW/welcome.html

Expedia etc was showing over $1800 for both tickets and $1300 for a single destination trip to Munich. I hear Lufthansa still does not charge for beer and wine on transatlantic flights too

We are collecting an SG 325i for my wife this time; it is my third ED but I still intend to blog about the trip and the excellent skiing.

we are leaving LGA on the 4th and returning on the 16th.. we locked in our flight 3 months ahead of time WITHOUT a vin.. a vin is only necessary to pay for it at the SPECIAL rate...

I booked my flight on Aug 3, long before the VIN was assigned. $1200 for two people from Albuquerque to Munich and returning Paris to Albuquerque.

I checked yesterday, and everything is confirmed 100%.

Funny part is that my credit card has not been charged yet...

I booked and paid for the tickets without my VIN...they never even so much as asked. I assume that they matched my name up somewhere with some list but I dunno. I got the 2 for 1 and the Fly Free special they were running...back in March this year. The Fly Free basically knocked off another $560 from the 2 for 1 deal so for 2 people, I paid a little around $830. Those darn taxes really add a lot to the ticket price.

Frankly, I did not find the 2 for 1 a good deal deal at all. The prices of some airlines are cheaper than the 2 for 1 deal. The lady told me that the tickets are priced in a higher tier than the lowest fare that is offered by Lufthansa. I booked it cheaper on Northwest. ($850) for two.

Hey MP3,

Luftansa held (reserved?) our tickets and ticket prices for approximately2 weeks. The tickets were not actually finalized until we provided them a vin #. Two seconds later the charge hit my credit card $1200
