OT: How tight is too tight on the belts?
Just curious, I replaced the belts, valve cover gasket, and hoses and such on the beater, and it squeaks...
No problem, just tighten the tensioner. A 5 minute job.
Done that a couple times now, and it fixes it for a week or so.
But now its slower to start up, I guess from the belts being too tight?
Factory belts from dealership.
No squeeks.
Recomendations?

Recomendations? | Serpentine or V-groove belts? I'm gonna guess V-belt (serpentines almost always have spring loaded tensioners).
On the longest span between pulleys, you should be able to deflect the belt (pushing inward) about a half inch (1/2"). If you can't do that, it's too tight.
