 Z4 M roadster at bmw.com

I found some info on the new Z4 M Roadster at www.bmw.com (go to the M vehicles section). There are some cool pics and the usual technical data. 343 horsepower, drilled brake rotors...

Also, it looks like the 2006 Z4 has the new straight-six engine, some new bumpers, and new tail lights. The tail lights are odd.

The demo/slide shows are a bit tedious so I took some pics.

Nice looking car with an awesome engine but 5.0 seconds to get to 60? The regular M3 which weighs quite a it more gets there in 4.7 Seconds? One would think that this car being so much lighter should be a bit quicker then the regular M3

It's odd that the ///M emblem is on the left side of the trunk lid...

Did BMW USA quote 4.7 sec to 60 mph for the M3?

Bear in mind that any figure quoted on bmw.com will be for 0-100 km/h, not 0-60 mph, and may well be the lowest common denominator in terms of quoted figures for this car in all its markets (for example BMWs sold in SA post more conservative figures than those sold in Germany, perhaps because of wider variation in petrol quality and because the majority of buyers - in Jo'burg - live at an average of 6,000+ ft ASL).

I would expect traction to be more of a limiting factor than weight. This certainly explains why various BMW and Mercedes super-saloons seem unable to offer significantly better acceleration - given their power increases - than their predecessors.

The Z4 M Roadster's estimated 0-100km/h (0-62mph) time is 5.0s, which is roughly 4.8s 0-60mph.

If you look on BMW.com, they spec the M3 at 5.2s for the 0-100km/h, which is roughly 5.0s 0-60mph.

So, the new M Roadster IS quicker according to BMW.

I expect BMW USA to put a 0-60 time of under 4.8s for the M Roadster when it's posted.
