Hello,
While browsing the forums on this board, I came across a couple of your posts and since you're a BMW representative I was hoping you could shed some light on my issue and possibly help me out.
I've recently otained a 2003 BMW Z4 through an auction. The car was lightly hit in the passanger door and no airbags were deployed however the insurance company wrote it off as salvage. I'm trying to fix the car so that I can enjoy it.
When the car was delivered to me I've found out that whoever was moving it from the auction to my location broke off the key in the ignition. Basically the keyless transmitter( plastic piece) is gone and I'm left with the metal (key) piece. The car will not start due to the fact that the chip is gone.(that's what the local dealer told me) everything else is functional and powers up.
When I contacted both dealers in my are, I was told that if the key is lost BMW will not reissue a replacement key for a car that's been salvaged and that I have to buy a whole lockset at a greater expense. It is really strange as I still have the main part of the key that the dealer could use to duplicate the key. Please, let me know what is the correct procedure and what can be done so that I can obtain a replacement.
Thanks,
