 Removing E39 head unit

Would someone be so kind as to guide me through removing a non-DSP head unit on a 1999 523 in order to install an ICElink.

Many thanks

This worked for my 2001 525T (blitzsafe/logjam conversion for iPod). Remove volume knob (pull straight out). You'll then see a small torx or allen head, turn 1/4 to left, not too hard though. That's it, lift from the side and pops right out. There's nothing to that head unit.

(send me a pm if you need more help)

One you release that first torx, the MID will pop out and reveal two more torx. Unscrew those and it will release the tape deck/in dash CD/radio unit. Sorry, just nitpicking about the term "head unit" since the radio/amp is separate from the MID.
