I just bought a 01 540I w/ 6speed and sport package . I used to run 1/4 mile cars(mustangs) and I always had a short throw shifter. Along with the shorter throw it also had over throw stops so you don't stress pass the shift point. Has anyone installed a short throw on a 6speed. If so, is it worth it? Did it make the shifts less sloppy? Thanks in advance. |

I installed an AC Schnitzer short shift kit on mine and it is fantastic. I have never had a short shift kit on any of my manual cars and this has definitely made shifting less sloppy. At the same time I also added a Dinan stage II clutch kit, Dinan stage II balanced flywheel, Dinan stage II ring gear adaptor and a Reman clutch plate. These things combined with the short-shift kit are an amazing combo!!

I have only good things to say about the Rogue Engineering SSK in my 530i also. I installed it the day after I took delivery in '02 and love it! Smooth transitions, shorter than stock throw, and little or now increase in effort. Coupled with the shorty ZHP shift knob it is a great combination! I also installed the WSR, weighted selector rod, which I think has alot to do with the smoothness.

remove the CDV (clutch delay valve) and your car will be even more transformed
a shorter throw and a faster shift from the removal of the CDV... hard to beat the combo..

Did anyone of you do this mod yourself? I have done this in the past but never on a BMW.

No I didn't but I have the installation manual for my AC schnitzer kit and it seems like it would be really easy if you have some mechanical talent. Unfortunately, I have none so I had to have it installed by a mechanic.
