Anybody here changed their fuel filter themselves? How difficult is it, and how long does it take? Any problems I should expect doing it?

I haven't done mine personally, but a lot of people have told me it's a snap. Anyone have directions???

Fuel filter replacement steps.
This is for the E38, but I believe the E39 is very similar... from what I recall, the E39's is under the driver's seat area, but the E38's is under the passenger side seat?
I also think the part number is the same for either car. 13-32-1-702-632.

He said 2 hours... wow. My main concern are the clamps. I think I heard somewhere that you have to break them off, or that a special tool is needed.
Oh well. I guess I'll have to open that thing and hope for good.

It sure looks like you could do it faster than two hours, but I can't say... I have not done it myself. Let us know how it goes!

i changed mine with relative ease.
the clamps unscrewed with a flat head screw driver, and i reused them by gripping the head with a set of vice grips.
very straight forward, did not even need to clamp off the lines, very little fuel leakage.
