I noticed alot of you out there convert your stock grills from your 530's, 540's etc to the "M-5" grill. What's the difference? From all the pictures I see I don't notice much, if any, difference. What is the difference? I have a stock 2003 530i sport.

I just installed the "M5" shadow grill...and I think the "fins" are wider. That is the only difference I could see.
I did the switch because I wanted to "de-chrome" the car like alot of peeps do. I "de badged" already and the only chrome on the car was the grill.

Thanks | There WAS a difference in the width of the chrome lip around the grills for all E39's >01. AFTER '01, the difference was found in the slats. Black for 530's and 525 and chrome for 540's and M5's. I *think* it was '01 when BMW started offering the wider "M5 style" grills on 540's and 530's. The 525 MAY have had the wider lip as well, but I am nearly certain it had only black slats (or slots) within the grill.

Although the lip width did increase for 01> I still think the M5 grille has a wider lip. I have compared pics of it to my grille and there is a difference in the lip.
