I am in the process of doing a tune up my 97 540i but could not find out where the location of the fuel filter is.....can anyone please help? THANKS  |

on my 00 M5 it is located above a plastic pannel, under the car, almost just below the drivers seat area.

It is probably under the car. There will probably be a metal plate protecting it but if you follow the fuel pipes, it should be around the transmission area. You need to get underneath the car to see, I doubt you can see it by peeking under the car from the side. It is a long slim silver canister.

Exactly where mottati said. Next to where the driver side jack pad is there is a plastic panel. Behind the panel is the fuel filter.
