BMW E39 First Aid Box storage kit addition (increase storage space)
I'm trying to figure out existing (initially confusing) information showing us how to add BMW storage boxes under each of the E39 front seats. I'll summarize what I find out. If there are any questions, I'll ask them so that others can come to this spot to find the answer in a single place. Parts required to add a (3" high x 9" long x 6" deep) storage space that slides out from under each front seat include the screws that hold the bracket which holds the box which holds the kit. More specifically (screws/bracket/box/kit) part numbers may be: - 52-10-7-044-958 (2) BMW FIRST AID BOX BRACKET - 52 10 8 099 797 (6) BMW FIRST AID BOX BRACKET SCREWS M6 x 12 (T30 or 5mm hex head, self-tapping preferred) - 52-10-7-044-958 (2) BMW FIRST AID BOX - 6 mm washers (6) And, optionally (for one of the under-seat storage boxes): -52-10-8-228-146 BMW FIRST AID KIT (gray, black & tan available) Note: Some threads say the FIRST AID BOX BRACKET is PN 52 10 7 045 018; other threads suggest it is PN 52 10 8 176 555. Note: Some threads say the FIRST AID KIT is PN 52 10 8 226 451; others say it's 82-11-1-469-062; others say it's 51-47-8-163-269 (see details below). With all these part numbers, it's probably model & year dependent (yet none of the threads seem to mention that probability). Also, very few, if any, threads make note of the fact that you need part numbers for four components: screws, brackets, boxes, and kits. Tools: - 5 mm hex driver - 6 mm tap Time: - Research time (4 or 5 hours without this thread) - Installation time (1 hour) Note: These part numbers assume (perhaps incorrectly) that the 3-series under-seat setup is the same as the 5-series setup. Apparently, the solution isn't as simple as looking up the parts in the ETK as shown by the dismal results I got when I entered "First aid kit" into my ETK today.
| | Reply » BMW E39 First Aid Box storage kit addition (increase storage space) | For the record, this 3-series thread intimates the diagram of the BMW E39 first aid kit may only be in the TIS (and not in the ETK). BMW Model Discussions > 3-Series for First Aid Kit Bracket? http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...it+part+number This diagram, reputedly from the TIS, implies the BMW first aid bracket (at least for the 3 series' BMWs) is under the driver's seat (I thought it was under the passenger's seat based on what I read previously).
| | Reply » BMW E39 First Aid Box storage kit addition (increase storage space) | Thiis thread, for a 99 528i, posts a similar part number, but the location appears to be under the passenger seat (if I read the diagram correctly). Everything Else > Classifieds > first aid kit for '99 528iAT(beige)/triangle http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...it+part+number Also, the part number for the missing three parts is not given: FIRST AID BOX BRACKET ? FIRST AID BOX BRACKET SCREWS ? FIRST AID BOX ? FIRST AID KIT 52-10-8-228-146 (GRAY)
| | Reply » BMW E39 First Aid Box storage kit addition (increase storage space) | Similarly, I can find a part number for the First Aid Box Bracket screws in the General BMW forum thread (P/N 52 108 099 797): BMW Model Discussions > General BMW > screws for first aid kit bracket http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...it+part+number But, when I type that BMW part number into my recently arrived ETK, it says: "sorry this part number is not in the parts catalog database or not installed in this model".
| | Reply » BMW E39 First Aid Box storage kit addition (increase storage space) | This 3-series thread implies the first aid box kit installs under the passenger seat (contrary to the reputed TIS diagram posted above). BMW Model Discussions > 3-Series > need part number http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...it+part+number And, more importantly, that 3-series thread provided a supplier. Unfortunately, that supplier web page ( http://www.eurobuyers.com ) simply says: "We Are Sorry." "EUROBUYERS IS TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE DUE TO MEDICAL REASONS." Hopefully this thread will attempt to answer these three questions: Q1: What are the part number for the E39: - FIRST AID BOX BRACKET - FIRST AID BOX BRACKET SCREWS - FIRST AID BOX - FIRST AID KIT Q2: Where does this first aid assembly go (passenger or driver seat)? Q3: Where can we (really) obtain these components for a USA E39?
| | Reply » BMW E39 First Aid Box storage kit addition (increase storage space) | Probably the best single thread on the subject is this 3-series thread which shows a different set of constantly changing part numbers for the BMW FIRST AID BOX (PN 52-10-7-044-958, $11.79) & something called the "Holder" (PN 52-10-7-045-018, $5.80), which is probably the FIRST AID BOX BRACKET. This thread gave yet another part number for the FIRST AID BOX BRACKET of 52 10 7 045 018 (in addition to PN 52 10 8 176 555). The part number for the first aid kit bracket mounting screws was provided in this thread as PN 52 10 8 099 797. But, my ETK, confusingly, fails to recognize any of these as valid part numbers (even though the 3-series is included in my ETK CDROM). BMW Model Discussions > 3-Series > FYI: First Aid Kit http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...=First+Aid+Kit At least a supplier (Dan @ Cutter) was suggested ( $11.79 ). Based on Internet searches for "Dan" and "Cutter", I presume the contact to be daninparts@cuttermotors.com or parts@cuttermotors.com but, again, the web home page for Cutter Motors ( http://cuttermotors.com ) appears to be defunct. Note: This thread additionally discussed the need for six "M6 x 12mm with a T30 head self-tapping screws" (but hex heads were also suggested), the fact that the 3" high x 9" long x 6" deep first aid kit box and first aid kit box bracket should fit under either front seat, yet it might interfere with air flow, and the worry that the first aid kit contents may be cooked by the heated front seats were all discussed.
