Is it just me, or are the blind spots around my 525i big enough to hide a greyhound bus?
I have been driving full size vans since I was a teenager and am pretty adept at using the mirrors. Since I got my 525 I have had more close calls than I can remember. I don't have the same problem in the wife's Mini. (I bought the 525 because she complained I was driving the Mini too much)
I went to a couple of auto parts places looking for spot mirrors and found nothing that I would stick on my 525. Any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks.

I don't think the E39 has blind-spot problems when the seat and mirrors are adjusted as above.

I didn't think the blind spot was too bad, but you can switch the mirror to an aspherically bent one. There is a line where it goes from a standard mirror (inside) to a convex style (outside) and it helps with the blind spot.
E39 part: 51-16-8-250-438
I didn't buy it for that... I bought it because it not have the standard text about objects being closer. (Mine is modified )
E38 part: 51-16-8-165-112

There are no blind spots on a E39, or any car that has side and rear windows for that matter. You just don't have your mirrors adjusted properly. If you can see the back corners of your car in your side rear views, you have it all wrong -- the mirrors are angled way to far inward. The back corner of your car doesn't move relative to you, so it's unecessary to see it. See the Car Talk discussion on this.

I love the aspheric mirror, but be careful, there are two different part numbers, depending on the model year of your e39. Check out www.bmwdiy.info for proper part numbers.

I drove my 3er for three years and 5er for three years after that. Never had a blind spot on either. Just take 5 minutes to adjust your mirrors correctly and you'll never have to worry about it again.
