Ok. I finally got my bluetooth retrofit kit from EIS that I have been waiting for some time for. The instal went smooth and quick just as everyone said but I ran into one road block. No audio from the phone system! Everything else works just fine: radio mute, voice recognition, placing a call, etc. When I call someone they can hear me but I can't hear them. There is also no tone when I press the phone buttion to activate the voice recognition. I sent the unit back to EIS and they confirmed that it workes. I also pulled out the head unit to make sure all connectors were attached. I am at a loss for what to do next. I have attached a photo that shows the connections and shows 2 cables that I can't identify. Maybe they have something to do with it. Any help would be great. Thanks! 2001 530i Nav/CD Changer/No DSP Greg |

i had this exact same problem when i did the bt retrofit on my 00 M5 using the kit from bmwnav.com In my case, it turned out that i needed a voice recognition module. Doesn't make sense, because the bt module should also handle VR, but it was an idea from my dealerships shop forman, we plugged one in and it worked, so i bought the VR kit.
Supposedly, you should have an ses jumper plug in place, may want to check that first as it's much cheaper. THis is where the vr module gets plugged in. the jumper didn't work in my case. Mike

Well, that is not what I wanted to hear. This little project is getting more expesive quickly.
I am surprised to hear that you had to do this. Were you already getting all of the VR functions just no audio before you installed the VR module? Seems kind of odd. You are the first person I have come across in all of my web research to say this. Most people who had problems put in an inline amp. Did you try that as well? I wonder if the VR module has a built in amp that did the trick.
Thanks for the reply!

You may want to look at this link: http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/27060 Scroll to the bottom. I think you either need to get an amp such as the ELK800 or the VR module. I believe the VR module has an amp built in so that is why Mike's application worked. Without an amp, you will not hear any output through your car speakers. Just a hypothesis to check out. I'm also guessing that the ELK800 is less expensive. Something like $30 as supposed to the BMW VRM which I would bet is more expensive. Good luck Cliff

Well I just spoke with the guy who put my kit together and he feels that it is something else because their modifications includes an amp already. Besides, he said they tested it in an E39 before sending it to me the first time and again after I sent it back.
I get the feeling I am going to have to learn to live with disapointment.

Check this thread out - I had a similar problem. Although, I see that you said all the connections were made in your head unit - I presume that to mean the radio head unit. If that is the case, then this may not be much help...
