 Parking Brake

Hi Guys,

can someone please tell me how to tighten the parking brake? I have to pull it up really high to get it to engage. I have taken the leather gator off and there are two brass nuts under the lever, do I just tighten these?

Thanks in advance

Neil

pulling up more than 10 clicks is thought of as being excessive, less than that and you are within factory specs.

you need to lossen the cable nuts you are talking about until the cable is completely slack.

then you have to raise up the rear of the car and remove one rear lug bolt from each wheel, turn the wheels until the lug bolt holes line up with the parking brake adjuster.

use a flat bladed screw driver and reach into the brake drum through the lug bolt hole. turn the brake adjuster until the wheel just doesn't turn anymore.
-then back off adjuster throught the lug nut hole 12 notches

back inside the car -set the parking brake several times to seat the cable, then pull up the parking brake lever two notches and tighten cable adjusting nuts until it is possible to turn wheels with slight resistance.

release the lever and make sure the wheels turn freely.

turn on ignition and pull up one notch to make sure the warning light comes on, if not adjust the warning light contact switch.

-if all is ok reinstall everything and you are good to go.
