Help me with my Nav. need a fix before Philly meet.

so my nav is off like nobody's business. i'm in fort lee and it shows i'm in Pal Park (town down the hill). I thought it was just a glitch so today i disconnected the nav and waited about 5 minutes and plugged it back in. No dice. it still shows i'm in BFE. So what do i do now? all the connectors run on the side so does this mean i have to take the whole rear carpet out to get to some of the connectors? where's the antenna and the antenna booster? can someone take some pictures (point with finger would be fine) as to where i should check for loose connections? email or post is fine. Thanks!!

Hmmm. If you have a MK II unit, it has a separate GPS receiver and NAV computer. If the NAV is working but the GPS is out of whack, it will run on inertial guidance only and develop more and more of a location error over time.

That's about all I know, however - hopefully someone with a MK I/II can chime in with details.

yes, it's an MKII system. what do you mean a separate GPS and Nav computer??? where's the GPS receiver? i'll check that since it seems the Nav computer is working but my location is out of wack.

I'm pretty sure that the MK I and MK II used separate GPS receivers. If you look at the back of a MK III or MK IV computer, you'll see 2 ELO connectors (blue and purple) and a coax connector that runs up to the GPS antenna (which is mounted in different places depending on the car model). Here are some PDF files that may help.

thanks but that looks like a MKI since my MKII i have a blue and purple connector. the GPS receiver is reversed and the harness is different from the one from one in the PDF. thanks for the pictures though.. i'll look into the antenna tomorrow now that i have a picture of where it is.
