Does your 5-series driver-side armrest fit your arm?
My 5-series driver-side armrest seems too short for a normal human. The (much longer) passenger-side armrest seems to fit better. Does your driver-side armrest fit the length of your arm comfortably?

The too-short E39 driver-side armrest forces my arm up to the door sill. But, my elbow hurts on this too-high too-hard driver-side door sill. Do you find the door sill to be a comfortable alternative to the driver-side arm rest?

I also had the same problem, and reported it to my dealer while my car was under warranty. The dealer said "they all do that" so I pursued it with the factory rep who decided to give me a door from the E60. Now it's much better, but I have a problem with wind and water leaks. Oh well!

I have a problem with this as well. At least it should have been padded where the elbow rests on the armrest while your left hand is on the wheel. Take a look at this link- they offer an add-on leather cushion for the Z3s and Z4s. I'm sure they could custom-make one for the E39.
