Voice Commands & first week rambles

I just realized I have been enjoying my car for a week and have yet to begin to talk to it.
Does anyone actually USE the voice commands on a regular basis?

I tried Dial Number a few times, but could not get it to get the digits right- maybe my accent being in the South

Got exactly 300 miles on the first tank of petrol in the city coming in at 17.x mpg for amount of fuel used. Considering traffic and how I have been driving I guess that is OK, but hopefully will improve. Still much better than my '03 ML500 (12 or so in city) and about the same as my'00 540i6.

In the past week I have installed 20% tint on the side and back windows, installed rear bumper reflectors, have two of the three parts for the armrest razr install, and have the BMW Base Support system (not installed). I need to find a way to mount my Thule box to it for a trip in 4 weeks.

Navigation and HUD are brilliant together, money well spent.
Comfort seats are wonderful as well as the Sport steering wheel.

That is about it, so far the car is perfect.
Straight line performance is not it's strong suit but once the road gets interesting the 530 sport is in its natural habitat.
Not saying that is is pokey. BMW claims 6.4 0-60 which is probably more like 6.2 or so under perfect conditions.
I do not know of another sedan this size (with large trunk) that is as sporty and rated 20/30 - it is an amazing package in those respects.

Still driving on my German Zoll plates.
I have had one local police and one state-trooper directly behind me at stoplights in the past week and I just knew they would want to see my paperwork - no problem, they either were too busy or just did not care.

Sweet, thanks for the update! It will be 1 year since pickup for me, and I still think the car is perfect as well. I use the voice commands occasionally, mainly as a quick way to change my map view and to switch to different radio stations. Only once every now and then do I dial by a number instead of a name, and it usually works well for me. Every now and then voice command will not understand a thing I say, so I give up and the next time I try everything is fine again.

Yep, I talk to mine also. Once you get used to the commands it understands, it becomes a useful tool. Now, if only I could get it to understand "y'all!"

Thanks for the update. Does the owner's manual come with a list of voice commands?

Yes - and there is also "Help" if you ask. I find it works pretty well - much better than my wife's Lexus which never understands anything we say.

One thing though is stray comments - no conversation with anyone or other noise or it will get confused - and learning to wait for the beep prompt before speaking. Voice recognition technology seems to get better with each new generation of gadgets I see - my old phone was impossible and my RAZR almost always works.
