X3 Loaner
Had to do the service thing to get a few "delivery issues" squared away and got an X3 for a loaner. It is actually a cool ride and even with Step, it is sporty and fun - but wow - no active steering and turning it is like plowing through cement. It is always cool to get a different car for a loaner just to get some test time on the other models to see how they are. For a small SUV, the X3 is a nice BMW - no where near as fancy as the 550i - missing all the cool toys, but still plenty BMW | | Reply » X3 Loaner | We drove them in the BMW Experience (or whatever it's called) in 2004, and I was amazed. They had a mini-road course set up on a couple of runways at the former South Weymouth (MA) Naval Air Station - all pylons, lots of run off room, but a good mix of sweepers, tight turns and medium size straights. Top speed of about 90.
They were amazingly sweet! Somewhat to my surprise, I preferred the regular suspension over the SP; with the short wheelbase, the SP was just too extreme for a daily driver. We considered one before buying my wife her X5, but the X5 won.
Then again, it's always fun to tear up a race course with somebody else's cars / tires / gas!

| | Reply » X3 Loaner | I took my X3 to Ikea to buy cheap junk that won't fit in my 530i...
| | Reply » X3 Loaner | I traded my X3 after only owning it 12 months to get my 545i. I thought I'd really like it but I grew to hate it. The high center of gravity is NOT for me, and the interior materials were for me not up to what I wanted out of a BMW.

The X3 is the only BMW I have ever driven in which I never felt like I was driving a BMW.
