E60 520i Manual Transmission Diff. Swap
*Sigh*, will a Bimmer Fan ever settle down and not do ANYTHING TO IT. I just got back from Test Driving a 520i, it's the only E60 I can afford (selling my 3 Series), and must say it drives very well, don't know why, but this engine feels much better than the 'ol E34 520i. Now, has anybody got information on the Rear Differential of this car, 'cause by the looks of it, I believe that all I might wanna do is place a more aggressive rear, an exhaust and some nice wheels/springs.
Regards,
Paul
PS- Any links that might help?

| | Reply » E60 520i Manual Transmission Diff. Swap | I live back and forth from Florida and Dominican Republic. In the DR, the BMW come from Europe, I believe we get the Spaniard/Italian prepped BMWs. The 520i I am seeing has a 170hp 6-cylinder engine. I BELIEVE it is the same manual transmission as the 525i, the car runs great, but I could use just a little more acceleration, in the past (1993) I did my first differential swap (318is manual w/ a 3.24 rear,...i think) and honestly, it drove like a 325. I topped out at less than 220 km/h, but then again, eventhough here in the DR we have no speed limits, I hardly drive that fast.
By the way know of any quad exhausts for the 525i?, most 525i parts should fit.

Paul | Check out www.realoem.com/bmw for the range of diffs available for 5ers of that generation. I think you have a 3.38:1, which could probably be swapped for a 3.73:1 from the automatic version. At a quick glance, there doesn't appear to be anything shorter than a 3.73:1.
