 Running in

I have a 3 day old 550i with 100k's on the clock.

Dealer said nothing about running in and I'm still working my way through the book.

Heard many say you don't need to run in but as a mechanical engineer I find that a bit odd - new surfaces, irregularities etc.

Any advice.

Also only niggle I have so far is my voice recognition lady doesn't seem to speak Australian English very well - any ideas - maybe a G erman accent?

Congat's on the new Bimmer! The fleet sounds mighty nice, would love to see a pic of them together!

As far as engine break-in, in the USA our owners guide says to vary the RPM's and not to use cruise control for the first 1200 miles.

Some more reading on engine break-in can be found here:

Thanks Me530 - exactly what I was looking for.

Will try and get a shot of all three in my signature - I really like each one of them for what they are.
