 Heads up Display (HUD)

I am debating to to add HUD to my 530i. Car that I have ordered will go into production on February 8th.

Can you please let me know your experience with HUD? Is it worth the $ 1K?

Appreciate your comments.

Thanks.

I have it and IMO its one of the best options BMW offers regardless of the cost.HUD has been on since I took delivery in Munich, never turn it off.You can see mph, cruise control, system check, ice warning,Nav,speed limit and there might be a few other things I forgot. Its just great you never have to look at your speedometer again. The only down side is you can't see the HUD if you wear polorized sun glasses. Good luck
cheers

The instrument cluster on my wife's benz is that way. When we took delivery, I sat there with the salesman for quite some time -- adjusting brightness on the dash. I kept telling him I couldn't see a thing. Then, for some reason I cocked my head at an angle and caught a glimpse of it. Then I knew what was going on. Too funny!

Glad I didn't pop for the HUD -- I always wear polarized lenses. Otherwise, it's gotta be one of the coolest options out there... right up there with active cruise.

I highly recommend HUD if you have navigation. Otherwise I would pass.

HUD has a few advantages. Seeing the Nav directions on the windshield is great, without it you will forget to look at the Nav screen for directions and you will have to have the woman's voice on to remind you to look.

Also, having the MPH displayed in the windshield has kept me in check when my foot was in the pedal too much. It is also VERY nice to be able to have the steering wheel adjusted anyway you want and not have to strain your eyeballs through the wheel to see your speed if part of the wheel is blocking the gauges.

Also, on long road trips, the iDrive screen is bright. If you are driving at night, you can turn off the iDrive screen so the passenger can get some sleep and still have Nav on the HUD display.

If it were a choice, I would take HUD over CA since I use it more. Like all the time when I am driving.

I read somewhere that shorter people may not be able to view the HUD. Does it fade out if not viewed at the proper angle? Or is this just misinformation? I'm 5'6" and I was hoping the HUD would be usuable. Cheers!
