 thinking of ordering 550i

Hi all, first post here. Currently a Porsche cayenne S owner. Wife drives a 03 325. I test drove a 545i and have priced out a ED 550i which amounts to about 56.6k. Will want to test drive one before placing the order but wanted to get opinions of the car from some of you wo might have ordered it. Cayenne S is a superb driving machine but like BMW's included maintnance and performance. Thoughts?

I drive the 545 6-speed. Fabulous car in every way. All critics agree it's the best sports sedan there is--especially with the stick. Surprisingly good mileage--mid to upper 20s. Needs snow tires in wintert, but handled so fabulously with Blizzaks last winter that I looked forward to heavy snow and/or ice. Handled in snow FAR better than did my X5. My third BMW, and my favorite--though I also loved the X5 and 528--all sticks, of course. If it's a great sports sedan in this price range you are looking for, there are no alternatives. The 550 will just add more power to an already smoothly powerful car. What're you waiting for?

A sedan is so much different from the SUV you currently drive - It would be hard to compare the two. Yet if you are looking for a sport sedan (rather than another SUV) you won't drive anything better than the 545/550 (IMO). The sports package and premium sound options are a must. But, I'd avoid the active steering. (Others will disagree).

The car is fast, amazing comfortable in any type of traffic and extremely roomy. You'll love it.

But compared to your Cayenne it will be a bit disappointing at the end of a Costco's trip.

yeah....reason I like cayenne is the power ad handling of the car. Just a great mix of SUV and a sport car handling. Mileage sucks and the maintnance is expensive but the handling is at the sport sedan level. Thinking of doing a ED although I know I will not be able to push the car on the autobahn due to break in. What I want to testdirve is a 530 and 550 with sport so I can feel the diffrence and possibly get the SMG.

Break in? I got my 530 up to 120 mph while keeping it under the 4000 rpm limit on the autobahn The car had a lot more left, I know it would have hit the limiter at 150 mph if I so desired. The car was also amazing on the mountain passes with the hairpin turns- handled like a dream.

Next time I will probably opt for the SMG as well as the sport package.

SMG or manual is what I want to order. Will need to wait to p/u in around spring or late winter....although autobahn's are clared of snow well I still would like to be able to cruise in the back roads with windows open.
