Blinker problems
My blinker is really annoying. I am using it correctly I believe. For instance, to turn left I push it down past the little "click". To cancel I touch it in the same direction. Most of the time this works fine. However, about 20-30 percent of the time I look down and notice that it isn't active. Sometimes it takes two or three tries until the blinker keeps going.
I am one of those people that always like to signal to others what I am about to do. I give people lots of time to respond etc. The fact that the blinker isn't working properly really bugs me. In fact it is the worst thing on the car. I have never ever heard of the blinker being an issue for anyone in any car. I've been driving 25 years and this is one thing I have never had to think about.
Has anyone else had problems with this? If so please let me know.
Thanks.

However, your way of pushing it the first detent (same direction) should probably work as well as it makes sense...I think! Sorry, probably not much help since I don't quite recall...I didn't drive my 545i today so I can't go out to the parking lot to check it. One thing is for sure, these new turn signals DO take some time to learn and get automatic with!

You don't need to push it all the way though, just to the first detent.

More specifically, the sensitivity of the mechanism that turns it off when you turn the wheel. I have found that even a very slight turn of the wheel and then return to straight will deactivate the signal. Something as simple as activating the signal and moving over in to the turn lane is usually enough to cause the signal to go off. It should take more of turn of the wheel, such as actually making a turn, not just a simple lane change to deactivate the signal... Just my 0.02
| | Reply » Blinker problems | The 3-signal lane-changing thing was driving me nuts. So I went deep into the bowels of iDrive(wearing my decontamination suit of course) and changed it so I can get from one signal to as many as I want when lane-changing by pushing the stalk up or down just a little. Sometimes I make a mistake and push the stalk too far up or down and activate the turn signal but given the way the car handles, I just shut up and put up with it. Sort of like pressing too long on the trunk remote opener of your key sets off the alarm. You want this kind of performance, you put up with the few idiotic things.
