 Oil Good For 18,000 miles?????

I have a 2006 530 and I have 10,000 miles on it. I took my car to the dealer because it seems my service indicator was off. According to the indicator, my car would not need a oil change until 18,000. The dealer is going to check it but he said there is no max. I have read on the boards that it counts down from 15,000. Is he just telling me some BS ?

The oil change lights work off of fuel used for your car model, not mileage, so the resulting mileage will vary based on driving habits - the dealer is not feeding you a line. 15K is typical, but it can be +/- several thousand miles from that.

On the other hand, most of us believe that even 15K is a load of crap that BMW AG is feeding us. Do yourself a favor and pay to have the oil and filter changed now (or soon). You can change it yourself for $40 or so or have an independent shop do it. Just make sure they don't reset the oil change lights.
