On a 2006 525i, my dealer says that I dont need to put premium gas. Is he right? Can you use any type of gas? Thanks

What does your owners manual say?

Put in premium. 1) you'll get better engine performance and 2) you'll actually get better gas mileage, which will help make up for the cost difference between the premium and cheaper grades.

You will get the best engine performance with the premium gas but your BMW can take the mid-grade stuff just fine (computer will adjust) but the HP/torque will drop (dunno how much but performance will suffer). Dunno about gas mileage...seems plausible it could drop.

Just ran some numbers. An average driver drives about 15000 miles a year. Hear in Florida the price difference between mid-grade and Hi-test stays pretty consistently at about 10 cents. With average mpg at 24, you would save about $120. a year or $10. a month. It just doesn't seem worth the chance of putting a lower grade fuel in the tank. You can check my numbers on this, but I think I've got it right.

Premium. Filling up with lower grades frequently will harm your engine in the long run.
